Fun Fact
Hot springs are often associated with volcanic activity, but with no active volcanoes in Australia, the country’s thermal springs come from groundwater. Over hundreds of thousands of years, this water has seeped through porous bedrock, circulated in deep underground reservoirs and risen in temperature from the heat of Earth’s core, until pressure caused it to reemerge on Earth’s surface as thermal hot springs. Mostly due to the world’s largest and deepest natural water reserve - the Great Artesian Basin - underlying a quarter of its mainland, Australia offers numerous hot water sites for visitors to enjoy.
